Offered by Anne Besnard
This adorable little scent box contains a set of four cut-crystal perfume bottles with silver stoppers, complete with cup, funnel and small timbale. The timbale and cup bear the Paris hallmark, from April 7, 1781 for small items, of Fermier général Henri Clavel, with a rooster's head turned to the left, and the flasks and funnel bear the Saint Germain en Laye hallmark, from December 1, 1780 for small items, of the same Henri Clavel, with a dog's head turned to the left.
The interior is covered with original blue silk and the lid is fitted with a small mercury mirror. The case is in violet wood marquetry and still has its key, but the lock no longer works. The kettledrum and cup have suffered from the passage of time and are subject to a few minor deformations and knocks.
18th century.
