Justitia – The Goddess of Justice

Justitia, the Roman goddess of justice, has embodied the pursuit of fairness and the rule of law for centuries. In Roman mythology, she is seen as a symbol of the virtues of law and justice. Her name comes from the Latin, from “iustitia,” which directly translates to “justice.”

One of the most famous symbols of Justice is the scales she carries in one hand. This represents a careful evaluation of evidence and arguments in order to make a balanced judgment. In her other hand, she holds a sword that represents the application of the law and the authority of the penal power. Lady Justice is often depicted blindfolded, a sign of her impartiality. This blindness emphasizes that she judges without regard to influence, wealth, or social status: all are equal before the law.

The image of Lady Justice is present in courtrooms and courts around the world. Her symbolism represents the principles of objectivity and justice sought in modern legal systems. Although her origins lie in Roman culture, Lady Justice has also found a place in other legal systems and cultures and is now considered a universal symbol of the rule of law.

In an age where justice is often questioned, Lady Justice remains a timeless symbol of hope for fairness and balance. It reminds us that the pursuit of justice is the cornerstone of any stable society.

Conclusion: Justitia represents not only the law itself, but also the ethical responsibility to maintain fairness and objectivity in all areas of life.
