Solid mahogany chest of drawers, opening with four drawers on three rows, gilt bronze ornamentation, Bordeaux, 18th century
In beautiful mahogany, this chest of drawers shows the specific features of Bordeaux production around 1760-1770, including the movement of the crossbar, between the first and second rows of drawers, which surrounds the whole piece of furniture.
Among the so-called "port chests of drawers" (Saint Malo - La Rochelle - Nantes and Bordeaux), only those produced in Bordeaux are decorated with gilt bronze, unlike those from other ports which are decorated with cast brass. This can be explained by the abundance of a richer clientele in Bordeaux.
Concerning this chest of drawers, it is important to specify that only one mahogany board constitutes its top!
