French Louis XV commode by Jacques Philippe Carel (1688-1755) Master of 1723

This Important three-sided curved commode features a rich floral marquetry: violet and rosewood in the reserves, amaranth and satinwood for the scrolled cartouches, and rosewood for the branches.

Very fine ornamentation of rocaille bronzes finely chased and gilded with mercury. They have never been redecorated.
The original marble is a beautifully restored “Breche d'Alep”.
Our commode is stamped with Carel and the JME hallmark.
Original oak frame.
Jacques-Philippe Carel's work reflects the Parisian style of the mid-18th century, and he was considered one of the finest craftsmen of his time. He worked for a wealthy French and foreign clientele, and also received numerous commissions from the Garde Meuble de la Couronne.
