Curved chest of drawers attributed to MIGEON

Dimensions: H: 85 cm x W 134 cm x D 65 cm

Violet wood chest of drawers with an animated shape characteristic of the Louis XV style.

Adorned with a refined decor composed of contrasting curls and chevrons, and framed by bands emphasizing its elegance, it opens on the front with three drawers in two rows. It is topped with a top in Aleppo breccia marble elegantly molded with a corbin beak.

The straight uprights of this curved all-sided chest of drawers are enhanced with gilded bronze scraps decorated with a stylized medallion framed by shells and foliage. Its arched legs harmoniously extend the sinuous line of the chest of drawers. They end with wraparound clogs with a foliage pattern on the two front feet.

A fine and elegant work of gilded bronze enriched the facade, thus defining four keyholes including one simulated decorated with palmettes and scrolls, falling handles with scrolls adorned with rosettes at their base and a large apron. This one with the motif of a central mask crowned with a palmette is very carefully chiseled and framed by scrolls of large flowering foliage. The details of the hair, the mischievous air of this character and the nuances between chiseled bronze and struck bronze demonstrate the quality of this piece.

Louis XV period work attributed to Pierre Migeon.

Renowned 18th century Parisian cabinetmaker Pierre Migeon distinguished himself from his contemporaries not by overly elaborate marquetry, nor by a profusion of ornaments, but by elegant know-how, focused on the beauty of the woods and refined geometric decorations. His works were less ostentatious than those of Oeben or Cressent, but they were distinguished by their subtlety and quality of execution; Sinuous, curved lines, exotic species such as violet wood, amaranth, rosewood or rosewood, worked with meticulous care and patterns very regularly including curling, chevrons and geometric marquetry.
The elegant simplicity of its compositions embodies exceptional know-how and timeless elegance, witnesses to the great tradition of French cabinetmaking.

This chest of drawers perfectly illustrates the refined taste and know-how of this great cabinetmaker.
