Offered by Marc Menzoyan
Bronze bust of late nineteenth/early twentieth century with polychrome patina. Titled "Saïda" young orientalist girl wearing hair and jewelry, probably inspired by a character from the opera of Auguste Mermet (Roland, around 1865). Emmanuel Villanis (1858/1914) sculptor born in Lille of Italian parents exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1886 to 1910, his main themes (mythology, orient, opera ...) are generally personified as young women with similar profiles.
Very nice state of presentation, stamp of the founder: Society of bronzes of Paris (1875/1930) signature Villanis on the shoulder.
