"Saint-Michel archangel", bronze after the work of Emmanuel Frémiet, the most famous example of which is at the top of the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel. Edition signed Frémiet on the base and dated 1876 (old cast by Charles More numbered) in good condition of presentation, original brown patina showing wear consistent with its age. The sour red marble base is included in the height indicated.
Emmanuel Frémiet was born in Paris (1824/1910) and is one of the most important sculptors of the second half of the nineteenth century, his themes evoke the great epic characters of the history of France, religious subjects as well as equestrian and animal groups. Awarded many times for his masterpieces, in 1900 he was named Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour.
