Allegory of Fortune by Didier Debut. Under the guise of a beautiful young woman dressed in a drape, she presents a palm (attribute of victory) holds a cornucopia and rests on a winged wheel symbols of fortune, it can be a representation of the goddess Fortuna (or Tyche). Statue produced at the end of the nineteenth century (old cast iron) signed Debut on its gilded bronze base, the original patina is brown nuanced for the subject. On the basis a cartridge indicates: The Fortune DEBUT Sr (sculptor) PRIX DE ROME. Beautiful state of presentation according to its seniority. The height of the character from the tip of his foot to the top of his hairstyle is 55 cm.
Didier Debut, French sculptor (1824/1893) student of David d'Angers obtains the Second Prix de Rome in 1851, he presents at the Salon many statuettes in plaster, bronze, marble, he participates in the decoration of the Opera, the Hôtel-de-Ville and the commercial court of the city of Paris.
