Golden bronze depicting the beautiful Psyche filling an oil lamp, (Psyche, character of the legend of Cupid after Apulée in The Metamorphoses). Period at the end of the 19th/early 20th century (Art-New period) bearing the signature A.CARRIER, monogrammed and numbered under the base, statuette in beautiful state of presentation with slight covers in the gilding.
Albert-Ernest Carrier of Belleuse was born in Anizy Le Château in 1824, after learning chiseling and silversmithing, he was a pupil of David d'Angers at the Fine Arts. He made his debut at the Salon in 1851, received numerous awards and was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1867. Working for the Louvre, the Tuileries, the Hôtel de Ville in Paris, a forerunner of Art-New, he was also attached to the Sèvres factory as director of works of art.
