Louis XVI Chiffonnier, stamped F.schey

Ouis XVI period chest of drawers in mahogany veneer and high quality solid mahogany, on an oak frame. It opens with four drawers separated by crosspieces, Uprights with rounded fluted and covered in brass. White marble top surrounded by an openwork bronze gallery. (original marble,) Stamped F.SCHEY Fidelys Schey; received master on February 5, 1777. Dimensions: Height: 100.5cm Length: 50cm Depth: 30cm (Very good original condition) Condition report and technical photographs on request. Fidelys SCHEY, originally from Baden, established his workshop on rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine near which he opened a sales store entrusted to his wife. Despite the brevity of his career, his production of works was important. He made Transitional and especially Louis XVI style furniture of good quality but without any originality, mahogany furniture decorated with bronzes or copper threads. He particularly cherished the decorations linked to music that can be found on the majority of his chests of drawers and his numerous roll-top desks. We have a detailed inventory of Schey's goods, drawn up after his death by his colleagues Martin Ohneberg and Jean Caumont. This inventory mentions more than 550 pieces, among which two bookcases with China varnish on the front and Paris varnish on the sides, a large roll-top desk, in mahogany, topped with a glass case, a wardrobe containing a bed, a number of chests of drawers and secretaries decorated with gilded bronzes, with a quantity of tables and consoles and small stepped desks.
