Tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl mirror, Mexico, late 18th century

Rare small rectangular mirror made of red-tinted tortoiseshell veneer, mother-of-pearl inlay, and black-tinted wood.
It features a beautiful geometric decoration of framed crosses, the iconography of which is inspired by the Christogram of the Jesuit Order.

Beautifully preserved, mercury mirror.

Mexico, New Spain period (1521-1821), second half of the 18th century.
