Pair of Lion Firedogs, Paris, Louis XV Period

Rare pair of finely chiseled and mercury-gilded bronze firedogs.
The two lions rest on rocaille bases of acanthus clasps decorated with garlands of flowers.

High-quality chiseling; original gilding with wear.

Parisian work from the second half of the 18th century.

Dimensions:

Width: 36 cm; Height: 34 cm

A similar pair is preserved at the Cognacq-Jay Museum in Paris under the inventory number "J 342".

Our opinion:

The pair of firedogs we are presenting is extremely rare because, apart from our model and the one preserved at the Cognacq-Jay Museum, no other model is referenced to our knowledge.
The extreme quality of the chiseling is comparable to that of the greatest bronze makers of the period.
