Jacob de Wit is an 18th century Dutch painter and decorator, known for his frescoes, ceilings and wall paintings.
Born in 1695 in Amsterdam and died in 1754 in the same city, he acquired great renown for his artistic talents. De Wit began his career as a painter of religious paintings and portraits, but he is best known for his decorative works. His frescoes and ceilings were often inspired by mythological, biblical or allegorical themes, or numerous puttis symbolized the chosen subject, in accordance with the great Dutch fashion.
De Wit perfectly mastered the use of monochrome cameos as well as bright colors to create spectacular effects, accentuating the effect of movement in his works.
During his lifetime, he worked mainly in Amsterdam, but his talent also led him to create works for European patrons.
