This luxurious large French jewellery box (36 x 24 x 15 cm), made of high quality mahogany wood with a beautiful geometric pattern veneer inlay. Gilt bronze frame inlay around the cameos, which gives a refined and prestigious appearance. A faceted mirror on the inside of the lid, which indicates a very exclusive finish. The jewellery box has removable compartments and a total of five cameos, each with a fine and deeply carved representation. The jewellery box is signed by Alphonse Giroux and it is a truly exceptional 19th century art object. From the details and construction, it is undoubtedly a high quality French antique piece, possibly made for the aristocracy or a royal person. Alphonse Giroux (1776-1848), was a famous Parisian luxury workshop, specializing in exclusive furniture and art objects, often supplied to the French court and elite.
