The deity is represented seated on a base made of lotus petals. The glory in the shape of a leaf is carved with stylized clouds. This is a classic representation of Buddha whose statuettes were created in large quantities in Japan during the Edo period. However, the one presented here was the work of an excellent sculptor, in fact, the face is particularly expressive and beautiful, which is rarely the case for sculptures from this late period, likewise the petals of the lacquered wood base are meticulously carved and have an elegant shape which is not usual. These are small details that make all the difference. A very beautiful expression of quiet serenity.
Difficult to give an exact date, this style having lasted for 3 centuries. Japan 19th century or before.
