Offered by Tora Tori
A very fine and rare set comprising a writing table (bundai) and its writing box (suzuri) in gold lacquer, hira and taka maki-e, and kirigane. The decoration depicts a cottage perched on an island with a teahouse surrounded by pine trees in the background. Finely chiseled silver hardware around the edge of the table completes the table's very high quality.
The writing stand follows the same lacquer grammar, with a silver inkstone and water pourer decorated with flying cranes inside.
The lid depicts mountains and pine trees, again depicted with great finesse.
The original wooden calligraphed boxes accompany the set.
