Rare Louis XV-period inlaid doucine secrétaire, circa 1765, entirely inlaid on three sides, in tulipwood, violetwood and satinwood flower marquetry, decorated with original finely gilded and chased bronzes.
It opens with a drawer in the waistband, a flap in the front revealing an interior opening with four small drawers, one of which forms an inkwell, and a central door; an ingenious mechanism reveals a secret with drawers.
The lower part opens with two leaves featuring a shelf, two drawers and a chest.
The unit stands on small curved legs.
Stamped N. Petit and jury mark (Nicolas Petit - Cabinetmaker received master in 1761 - (1732-1791)
The original marble is “Breche d'Alep”.
Provenance: Perrin, Antiquaire, Paris.
Condition: varnish restored and bronzes gilded, probably in the 1980s.
