Louis XV period circa 1740 - 1750 in rosewood, violet and satinwood veneer, with a removable knee-rest for the prie-dieu (also called ‘bas d'armoire à double guichet’). The inside of the doors are veneered in red ebony. The interior shelves are painted to match the veneer's check pattern.

Antoine GAUDREAUS, Louis XV's first cabinetmaker, delivered a similar piece of furniture on 20 September 1740 under the number 563 for use in the Queen's study at Fontainebleau (not found).
Pierre IV MIGEON (1696-1758) received his master's degree before 1729, the most brilliant of a dynasty of Parisian cabinet-makers. His loyal client was the Marquise de Pompadour.
