Offered by Franck Baptiste Provence
Small sloping desk in rosewood veneer applied in butterfly wings.
It rests on four arched legs and has a three-drawer box in the lower part and a flap in the upper part.
The flap reveals a work surface covered with green leather and a theater composed of six storage compartments and two drawers, one of which serves as an inkwell.
A sliding trapdoor hides a secret compartment in the central part.
Interiors of the drawers in oak.
Beautiful condition.
Parisian work from the Louis XV period around 1740-1750 to be compared to the production of Pierre IV Migeon.
Dimensions:
Width: 63 cm; Depth: 40 cm; Height: 88 cm
Our opinion:
The small lady's or child's desk that we are presenting is a luxury production, which is confirmed by high-end finishes such as the interior veneer of the lockers, the mercury gilding of the hinges and compasses or the rear veneer which originally allowed us to position our desk in the middle of the room.
Few people could read at that time and the majority were content with a fairly basic desk and often made of native wood for their offspring.
The slope desk in precious wood veneer was at that time a very expensive ceremonial piece which was rarely given to a child, especially since the latter was destined to grow up.
Our desk which is presented in very good condition is therefore a very rare example on the market.
