Statue representing a young girl in prayer, her rosary in her hands and holding an olive branch. Produced from the original marble of Leonard Agathon presented at the Salon of 1894, this bronze edition of the late nineteenth century faithfully conveys the spirit of religiosity in the attitude and purity of the face, thanks to the quality of casting and its finish. Very nice condition, original medal patina with golden highlights on the branch. Signature on the base, numbering under the base.
Léonard Van Weydeveld known as Agathon (1841/1923) sculptor of Belgian origin naturalized French exhibited at the Salon in 1868 with the Society of French Artists. In 1896 he joined the Société nationale des beaux-arts where his works were exhibited from 1896 to 1914. As part of the Art-Nouveau movement he was appreciated for his elegant and graceful female subjects. In addition to numerous distinctions, in 1900 he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor.
