Ernesto Basil. Palermo, 1857 - 1932. Architect, designer and designer of furniture and furnishings. Son of the architect Giovan Battista Filippo, he graduated in architecture from the Royal School of Application of Engineers and Architects of Palermo and began to work with his father, who would succeed him in the university chair. While in official works his classicist training emerges (see the new wing of the Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome, in the fresco he calls the painter Aristide Sartorio), in the design of private buildings (Villa Igiea, Villa Florio, Villino Ida, Villino Monroy etc.) his very personal style blends with the Liberty language, making him the most original interpreter of Art Nouveau in Sicily.
