This beautiful bronze statue of two shepherds was created in 1923 for the Salon des Beaux-Arts by R. Varnier. R. Varnier has phenomenal ability to mold the right proportions, muscles and most importantly their emotion. The dogs are chained to a pole with their food at the base. One lies with an alert face and ears up and forward, while the other half jumps over his partner with one leg up, his mouth open and his ears forward. The bronze is patinated and in very good condition. Varnier's signature is engraved on the back of the bronze as R Varnier, and the Salon des Beaux-Arts 1923 is engraved on the right side of the base and Patrouilleau editeurs, France 1923.
