Marquetry veneered wood commode, adorned with gilt bronze mounts, a late 19th-century tribute to the refined craftsmanship of Joseph Baumhauer (d. 1772), one of the most esteemed ébénistes of the 18th century and supplier to the French royal court.
This opulent piece is richly adorned with finely chiseled gilt bronze mounts in the florid Rococo taste, set against a masterfully inlaid marquetry of kingwood and satinwood veneers. Topped with a luxurious rouge marble slab, the overall effect is one of regal sophistication.
