Offered by Danièle Fontaine Antiquaire
French furniture & objets d'art from the 18th century
Nice size for these sculptures in bas-relief of a profile of young women, dated respectively 1869 and 1873
Each signed with the monogram C H R or C H À.
Concerning the bas-relief dated 1869, I am convinced that it is Marie D' Agoult, writer and wife of Franz Litz, recognizable with her busted nose, her braids on the ears and her mantilla on the head. Numerous representations, both engravings, paintings and photos accredit this hypothesis.
As for the other young woman (1873), research will certainly be able to identify her. They must belong to the same literary circle.
Presented in an oval frame of style LXVI in wood and gilded stucco in perfect condition.
French school of the 19th century.
It should be noted that one of the medallions is heavier than the other. The one dated 1869 is thicker.
Note also that the latter has an old restoration
