Decorative art from 18th to 20th century
Barbedienne house.
Young faun after the antique.
Patinated bronze.
This bronze realized by Barbedienne presents a faun after the antique showing the model of the Paros marble young faun dating from the 2nd century after J.-C. exposed today in the Louvre. This version is the pudic one, derived from the many reproductions that have been made of this bronze with several variants. The faun rests on a neo-Pompeian base decorated with volutes and supported by antique-style feet.
The models of the base as well as the faun were used separately by Barbedienne to create candelabras while our object is purely decorative.
