Centerpiece with three Putti in gilded bronze, Italy 17th century

This beautiful sculpture representing three children supporting a mount, must have been a centerpiece. It is in bronze cast using the lost wax method and gilded with mercury. The model exists, with three female subjects from the 16th century in full Renaissance, the V&A has an engraving of it. A few models of the genre but always representing young women were cast during the Empire period, notably by Thomire. The sculpture with Putti presented today is probably a French work from the end of the 17th century but perhaps earlier Italian. It should be noted that it was discovered in a city of the ancient Sardinian kingdom, which would lead us to think it was Italian. The cast is of excellent quality, the finishes are admirable and the gilding is original. The putti are cast in 2 parts and welded at the hips. A funny detail is the fact that one of the Putti came out of the cast too short and the artist added soles so that the child is at the same level as his two companions. The faces are expressive, the proportions are perfect and announce an excellent artist.
No repairs. Gilding worn in places. Traces of green oxidation.
