Art Deco - Art Nouveau - Ceramics and Slip
Marcel Couderc (1898 - 1991), drawing teacher and artist inspired by Naive Art, is mainly recognized for his exceptional fresco that adorns the hall of the Camera cinema in Meknes, Morocco, created in 1939. Monumental, it reflects the Art Deco aesthetic and his work. His attraction to the play of color shades, intertwined perspectives and stylized compositions sets him up as a Douanier Rousseau of the Modern Age.
"African Woman and Child", 1953 illustrates the harmony sought by Marcel Couderc between a luxuriant Nature and the men who populate it. The geometrization of lines and shapes, the addition of bright red to warm tones, reflect the decorative aspect of this modern artist.
The piece is signed and dated lower left.
