Bust of Cupid, sculpture in Carrara marble, period early twentieth. Signed A. LEONARD on the base decorated with a vegetable pattern, very beautiful state of presentation. An identical model appears p.211 in the reference book: Art-Deco by Bryan Catley.
Léonard Van Weydeveld (known as Agathon) 1841/1923 was a sculptor of Belgian origin naturalized French. Born in Lille, he joined the Academy of Fine Arts of that city and continued his training at the School of Fine Arts of Paris. His works were on display from 1868 and he exhibited at the Salon until 1916. A significant artist of the Art-Nouveau movement, he received numerous awards including a medal of the Order of the Legion of Honor.
