17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
This pair of large armchairs with flat backs is in carved and molded walnut. We find the stamp of Pierre Nogaret, a carpenter from Lyon who became a Master in 1745.
These two seats have a decoration of flowers and foliage. There is also a "staple hook" decor characteristic of the famous carpenter's production.
These armchairs are based on curved legs, carved with stylized shells and foliage.

Historiacal Annecdote:
In Pierre Nogaret's production the location of the stamp is in itself a signature.
Indeed, most carpenters of the 18th century stamp their seats under the crosspieces (visible by turning the seats over).
At Nogaret, the stamp is visible most of the time:
on flat back armchairs "cannés", the stamp is on the rear cross member of the chassis, on padded flat back seats, it is on the rear cross member of the belt, on so-called "cabriolets" seats, on the upright of the folder at assembly level.
