Saint Barbara Sculpture Italian School 18th Century
A delightful Saint Barbara depicted with the tower in which she was imprisoned by her father to protect her from the gaze of men, or according to another version of her legend, from any attempt at Christian proselytism.
The Saint is elegantly dressed in a red robe veiled with a drape falling in broken folds at the front.
A pearl necklace can be seen around her neck.
The face is delicately rendered, a softness accentuated by the long, wavy locks of her hair falling over her shoulders.
Our sculpture demonstrates the grace of 18th-century Italian sculpture. It is indeed a composition with serene and refined characteristics enhanced by emotional intensity.
