Rare Sèvres hard-paste cylindrical cup and saucer of the 'second size'. Polychrome and gold decoration of laurel garlands and a double coat of arms.
The left-hand arms (of the husband) are as yet unidentified.
The right-hand arms (of the wife) are very probably those of the sister (or a close female relative) of Louis de LAUS de BOISSY, noted writer et Parisian judge (1743-1799).
Very indistinct date-letter 'y' for 1776, under the saucer (N.B. : this date-letter is very clear under the sugar bowl of the same tea service).
Mark of the painter Charles BUTEUX père under both pieces.
Mark of the gilder Louis-Antoine LE GRAND under the cup.
Mark of the gilder André-Joseph FOINET, dit LA FRANCE, under the saucer.
Height of the cup : 6,8 cm (2 11/16 inches)
Diameter of the saucer : 14 cm (5 1/2 inches)
Excellent condition of the porcelain ; minor retouching to the gilding in the centre of the saucer and along the edges of both pieces.
Armorial decoration on 18th century Sèvres porcelain is very rare.
