Offered by Antiquités Rigot et Fils
A rare and small gilt-bronze mounted rosewood, ebony, amaranth and sycamore parquetry Table de Salon.
Decorated overall with a flower-filled geometrical shape parquetry, the white rectangular marble top with a pierced “à la Grecque” gallery fitted with a sliding shutter above a regular drawer revealing a secret on each side once opened, above a rectangular galleried stretcher with a conforming marquetry, resting on four tapering legs with a floral inlaid terminating in foliate sabots.
The attribution is based on various commodes decorated in the same geometrical trompe l’oeil marquetry stamped by Martin CARLIN, Sotheby's New York, October 13, 1973, lot 153; Sotheby's Monaco, February 13, 1983, lot 504; Christie's Monaco, December 5, 1993, lot 207, Sotheby's Monaco, May 21, 1978, lot 154.
Our table also shares the same characteristics of marquetry and presents identical gilt-bronze mounts such as the foliate sabots and the gadroon joints on the commode; Sotheby’s London, July 3, 2012, lot 131.
