Large Louis XV period carved and gilded wood mirror

A rare and sumptuous Louis XV period carved and gilded wood mirror with mirror surrounds.

The pediment features the architecture of a perfect semicircular arch, with a central cartouche of branches framing a large stylized acanthus leaf. Then, on either side, we find the same lively plant decoration up to the shoulders. These shoulders, decorated with scrolls, pig tails and leafy bouquets, are topped by a proud bird reminiscent of the chimeras typical of the Regence style (their presence, rare in a decor, is a sign of high quality). The lower part is centered by a cordial motif of facing "Cs" framing foliage and scrolls. At the ends, an architecture of scrolls, foliage and "pigtails" echoing the shoulders. It stands on two small Rocaille-style feet with asymmetrical curves and counter-curves centered on a mirrored coat-of-arms. Beautiful ornamentation of Bérain-style baguettes and shells.
