Offered by Galerie Gilles Linossier
Large carved and gilded wood mirror with parecloses.
Its pediment with reserves is surmounted by a large and meticulously sculpted face depicting a crowned woman on a Queen's background, highlighted by a shell and topped with delicate curved acanthus leaves.
It is surrounded on either side of the reserves by Bérain-style baguettes.
The reserves are surmounted by majestic heads imbued with exotic nobility, evoking, in the phantasmagorical tradition of the time, the "Indian heads."
The gilding is original, giving it a period charm. Its sumptuously fine and delicate carvings are of great precision.
This remarkable mirror, of impressive dimensions, immediately captures the eye with the richness and elegance of its decoration. At the crossroads of the Louis XIV style, still present in its solemnity, and the more supple Louis XV spirit, this mirror embodies the transition to a Regency aesthetic.
