Late 18th, early 19th century French furniture and objets d'art
Pair of large wallpapers marouflaged on canvas. Manufacture Desfossé & Karth, circa 1900.
Jules Desfossé, artistic director of the Mader brothers' wallpaper house in the Bastille district of Paris, took over the business around 1850. A decade later, his association with Hippolyte Karth gave birth to the “Desfossé & Karth” factory, which remained active until 1950. They acquired an excellent reputation for the quality of the details they rendered, and for the wealth of old stocks of Mader brothers' decorative designs that they were able to republish.
