Jacques Pierre Letellier was a Parisian joiner who became a master in 1747. Born into a family of joiners, he developed his business in the Faubourg Saint Antoine. At the time, his production was essentially in the Louis XV style. Pierre Kjelleberg's book, “Le mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle” (18th-century French furniture), shows that he produced both luxury and so-called “simple” seating. He is said to have made ten Transition armchairs for the Marquis de Marigny, now in a Paris collection.
