This pair of Queen's armchairs stamped by Courtois is distinguished by the quality of its sculptures.
Very close to our pair of St Georges, this one is in molded and carved beech, it therefore reflects a great mastery of the techniques of the time.
The cuff armrests end in a roll-up and join the whip-shaped supports. The seat and back are covered in Chinese gold silk surrounded by stylized flora.
The curved belt features a beaded palmette in its center delicately highlighted with foliage on each side. And a flower with a stem in high relief falling from the two front feet. The arched legs are molded with a pattern of baguettes and scrolls, in the same model as the Saint Georges.
The Queen's backrest, on the other hand, has a more scalloped shape in the upper part and decorated with a beaded palmette in its center, has, in the lower part, a concave backrest unlike the Saint Georges which are convex. Which gives them a softer appearance.
Parisian work from the Louis XV period stamped N.S COURTOIS (received master in 1766).
A contemporary of Saint Georges, we owe Nicolas Simon Courtois some beautifully crafted armchairs.
This pair can be offered as a set with the pair of Saint Georges because in addition to the identical fabric, the two pairs are very good and similar.
