17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
From a stylistic point of view, following the rigidity of the Romanesque style, this elegant Virgin and Child is entirely in line with the Gothic revival, the courtly Gothic, the amiable Gothic characteristic of the 14th century.
The Virgin, in a standing position, is slightly swaying under the weight of the Child carried on her left side
She is dressed in a long dress with a round neckline, cascading down the front and animated by deep broken folds.
Illuminated by a graceful smile, the round face, with fine features, is topped with wavy hair typical of the creations of the Gothic period.
The child is also dressed in a long tunic covering his feet. He seems to be holding the veil covering Mary's shoulders with his right hand.
