Offered by Matthew Holder
An engraved stag antler powder flask with iron mounts.
Probably German, late 16th century.
Measures 26 x 15cm.
The front is intricately engraved with scenes of boar and stag hunting set in lush woodland landscapes. The depiction includes hunters dressed in period attire, one on horseback carrying a falcon, another armed with a firearm, and a third playing bagpipes. Flanking a central cartouche featuring a coat of arms—likely a merchant’s mark—these figures bring the vivid tableau to life. The reverse is engraved with a bold depiction of Leda and the Swan.
Old repair inset at the top right above Leda’s head and belt hook and side-rings missing.
Provenance: Per T. Norheim Collection
