Nicolas-Quinibert Foliot (1706-1776)
One of the greatest carpenters of Louis XV's time. Supplier to the Crown, he surrounded himself with the best sculptors, including Babel, Dupré and his nephew.
A royal model
During the reign of Louis XV, several important Foliot deliveries are known for their simple, yet dignified and elegant furniture. Rare examples are preserved today at the Mobilier National, Versailles and the JP Getty Museum. The American institution presents a pair of armchairs very similar to ours.
