16th Century, Pair of Italian Lacquered and Gilt Wood Sculptures Torch Hold

The pair of sculptures, in finely carved wood, lacquered and gilded, was born as a torch holder, and is a fine example of wooden sculpture from the sixteenth century characteristic of Tuscany.
The sculptures depict two angels, with wavy and golden hair, lacquered complexion, dress with soft draperies and golden shoes. The two figures hold, specularly to each other, a large carved and gilded cornucopia, on whose upper end is inserted the bobeche in golden metal, which supported torches for lighting environments. The two angels rest on a carved wooden base with volutes and gold, with four lacquered ferini feet, and on the front side, the faces of a cherub lacquered with golden wings, which frame the profile.
The sculptures, designed to be enjoyed from a frontal view, are very decorative, appreciable in pairs or individually, placed in raised position, above bases, drawers and consoles, or in staggered position on a staircase. They can also be adapted to lamps. Very refined, thanks to the brightness of the golden leaf, they are suitable for both antique furniture and modern contexts, in which they will bring the timeless warmth and charm of the old.
