17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Beautiful Baroque angel sculpted in the round, polychrome and gilded from the 18th century.
He is represented with his right knee resting on a cloud in an attitude ''a contrapposto''. This process, by the effect of the twisting of the body, allows the image to be illustrated in a more lively way unlike a completely frontal pose.
The torso is bare, while an abundant and detailed drape reveals the left leg and just lets the end of the right foot escape on the back of the sculpture.
The wide opening of the arms as well as the widely deployed wings sculpted with feathers offer an impression of lightness, like a flight.
We will note the softness of the face sketching a slight smile and topped with wavy hair.
