Pair of finely chased and gilded cast bronze CHENETS decorated with hanging parakeets screwed onto a tripod base with foliage and foliage motifs in opposite directions.
Period irons
Attributed to JACQUES CAFFIERI (1678-1755), sculptor and ciseleur ordinaire du ROI.
LOUIS XV period, circa 1745-1755.
This attribution is explained by the presence of the parakeets mentioned in Jacques CAFFIERI's 1755 after-death inventory, published and commented by DANIEL ALCOUFFE, as well as parrots created for mantelpiece trimmings.
A pair of three-branched sconces with similar parakeet decor in the PALAIS du QUIRINAL in ROME, from the PARMA ducal collection, also attributed to JACQUES CAFFIERI.
