Small blackened wood desk resting on four arched legs. The belt and top are decorated with brass fillet framing and geometric motifs. The desk opens with a lockable drawer in the side belt thanks to a gilded bronze keyhole. The top of the desk is upholstered in red leather.

The flat desk appeared at the beginning of the 18th century, at a time when the mazarin desk was in decline in furniture production, due to its large size. The flat desk, on the other hand, was so successful that by the Regency period, distinctions were being made among flat desks. The small proportions of ours indicate that it is a woman's desk. The same brass motifs can be found on a large flat desk on display at the Galerie.
