Louis d'Orléans d'après Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910)

Bronze statue published by the Barbedienne foundry at the beginning of the twentieth century (from 1910) representing Prince Royal Louis 1st Duke of Orléans after the monumental sculpture erected in the courtyard of the Château de Pierrefonds in 1870.
Nuanced original brown-green patina, good state of presentation, precise chasing producing a certain realism, old wear and tear, slight patina touch-ups, restored cherry red moulded marble base (gluing, retouching) not very visible. The thickness of the marble base (4 cm) is included in the indicated height (51 cm) Total height with the lance: 79.5 cm.
Emmanuel Frémiet was born in Paris in 1824, was introduced to drawing, began as a scientific lithographer, and was interested in human and animal anatomy. A talented sculptor, his first works were presented at the Salon of 1843 and received numerous private and public commissions. Excelling in many themes, in particular equestrian groups, Emmanuel Frémiet's success will shine during the second half of the nineteenth century and many of his works became emblematic of French landmarks such as the statue of Saint-Michel at the top of the abbey or Joan of Arc on the Place des Pyramides in Paris.
