17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Very pretty pair of armchairs with flat backs called ''à la Reine'' in molded walnut and richly carved with cartouches, acanthus leaves and flowers on the belts, shoulders and braced backs.
The armrests with cuffs rest on whipped uprights.
The arched feet are covered with acanthus leaves.
Petit point tapestry trim decorated with rural scenes in cartouches on a landscape background. It seems that the files illustrate Spring in the form of a young woman holding flowers and Autumn in the form of a young man crowned with vine leaves, surrounded by bunches of grapes and holding a cup in his hands. and carafe. The tapestries on the seats feature a decoration of animals on a landscaped background.
Considering their quality of execution, these large seats deserve a stamp. The research we did led us to compare these armchairs to the models of Louis Cresson (ref: Le Mobilier Français du XVIII° Siècle - Pierre Kjellberg - Les Éditions de l'Amateur)
or by Pierre Gillier (ref: set (sofa and 8 armchairs) exhibited at the Nissim-de-Camondo Museum and stamped by Pierre Gillier. Also, a similar armchair listed on p.86 of the book ''French furniture - Seats'' by Guillaume Janneau)
