17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Italian school of the 18th century for this very pretty pair of angels carved on polychrome oak wood and represented kneeling on clouds.
A short tunic tightened at the waist covers their dresses with rounded pleats falling around the knees in an elaborate drape.
The widely spread wings sculpted with pinnae give an impression of delicacy and lightness.
The faces with almond-shaped eyes and small mouths are covered with wavy hair.
The attitude of the angels is marked by benevolence and contemplation as evidenced by their hands clasped on their chests, the position of their bodies leaning forward and the gentle expression of their gazes.
