Important woodwork trumeau in green lacquered linden wood "under olive leaves" for the woodwork and gilded wood with leaf for the glazing bead frame which is violin shaped.
The latter presents uprights in acanthus clasps which are decorated with bunches of grapes and intertwined vine leaves.
The upper crossbar displays a large unfolded acanthus leaf topped with a reserve made up of achantes staples intertwined with branches on a woodwork background, with in the center a garland of roses suspended by rings.
Great quality of sculpture combining finesse and nervousness.
Original leaf gilding.
The three mercury glasses.
Very good state of conservation.
Provence, lower Rhône valley, Louis XV period around 1760-1765.
Dimensions:
Height: 250 cm; Width: 124 cm
Our opinion :
The abundance and nervousness of the wine decor of our trumeau are characteristic of the best workshops in the Rhône valley.
The nature of the slightly asymmetrical acanthus decoration and the presence of motifs which announce the Louis XVI style (roses, rings) allow us to date it to the 1760s.
The very large size and the presence of three large mercury glasses, which were extremely expensive at that time, indicate a very prestigious commissioned work.
