French Louis XIV Library Showcase Thomas Hache Circa 1700/1710

Rare two-body bookcase with a facade entirely veneered in olive wood whose brilliance is enlivened by rosewood and rosewood fillets with geometric patterns.
The slightly recessed upper body opens with two glass doors. The upper cutout of the doors adopts a specific pattern with tiny recesses elegantly marking the rounded edges.
The lower body opens with two doors and two drawers.
The cherry sides are decorated with rectangles of rosewood fillets into which an olive wood veneer is inserted, thus echoing the black moldings and the decor of the facade.
The attribution to the Grenoble cabinetmaker Thomas Hache (November 28, 1664 – May 13, 1747) can be affirmed both by the choice of wood used and by the typical geometric design of the marquetry. The assembly is also significant like the rebate mounted drawers and the nailed rear bottom.

Thomas Hache was born in Toulouse in 1664.
At the age of 20, he began his journey through France, stopping in Grenoble, working for the cabinetmaker Michel Chevallier, marrying the latter's daughter in 1699, and after the death of his father-in-law, in 1720, resumed his workshop on Place Claveyson.
A year later, he obtained the patent of Guard and Cabinetmaker for the house of Louis d'Orléans, Duke of Chartres, governor of Dauphiné. With the help of his only son, Pierre, who will succeed him, he demonstrates great activity.
He will use indigenous wood marquetry (before going to Grenoble, Thomas Hache had met Piedmontese marquetry makers during a stay in Chambéry), or regional wood marquetry made of panels framed with fillets on a plain veneer background.
