An exceptional ink and graphite on paper, extremely detailed and likely produced to show off the artist's potential as an engraver (or at least engraving designed): The drawing represents the protagonists of a novel of the Monelle symbolist trilogy of Marcel Schwob.
No similar engraving is known.

Jules Pascin was a major inter-war artist, often described as a French expressionist. The portraits in this drawing are strongly reminiscent of his 1920s painted portraits.
